Türkiye's passenger car market grows 7.3% in 1st half

Passenger car sales in Türkiye rose 7.3% year-on-year to 462,955 units in the first half of this year, according to data released by an industry group on Wednesday.

Some 577,981 passenger cars and light commercial vehicles were sold across the country this January-June, up 3.7% annually, the Automotive Distributors’ and Mobility Association (ODMD) said in a statement.

Some 115,026 light commercial vehicles were also sold, down 8.7% from a year ago.

In the six-month period, hybrid cars made up 14% of total automobile sales or 64,921 units, rising 46.2% annually.

Electric cars sales enjoyed a 175.7% year-on-year surge in January-June, hitting 39,405 units.

In June, the automobile market narrowed 3.6% at an annualized pace to 87,858 units while light commercial vehicles sales fell 12.6% to 18,380 units.
