August was 1.3 degrees hotter than previous years in Türkiye

Highest temperature recorded in Cizre district in southeastern Sirnak province; lowest in Kangal district of central Sivas province
The average temperature in Türkiye in August was 26.4 C (26.4 F) -- a 1.3-degree increase compared to seasonal norms. From 1991 - 2020, the average temperature in August was 25.1 degrees, according to data compiled by Anadolu from the Environment, Urbanization and Climate Change Ministry. In August, the average temperature remained around seasonal norms in some western provinces such as Tekirdag and Kirklareli, as well as parts of the central and western Black Sea region. Other parts of the country witnessed temperatures above the norms. The lowest recorded temperature in the country was 1.9 C in the Kangal district of central Sivas province in August, while the highest was 46.1 C in the Cizre district of southeastern Sirnak province. The month was the fourth hottest August in Türkiye in the last 53 years.   Regional temperatures In the Marmara region, the average temperature was 26.1 C. Tekirdag and Kırklareli recorded seasonal temperatures, but areas in the region experienced above-average temperatures. The lowest in the region was 14.3 C in the Corlu district of Tekirdag, and the highest was 39.9 C in Edirne province. In the Aegean region, temps averaged 28.2 C. Western Afyonkarahisar province and the Akhisar district of western Manisa province had temperatures around seasonal norms, while other areas in the region were above norms. The lowest in the region was 10.3 C in the Simav district of Kutahya province, and the highest was 44.1 C in the Nazilli district of southwestern Aydin province. The average temperature stood around seasonal norms in the southern provinces of Hatay and Kahramanmaras in the Mediterranean region, as well as parts of the region, while others saw above-normal temperatures. The lowest was 7 C in the Goksun district of Kahramanmaras in the region; the highest was 43.1 C in the Koycegiz district of southwestern Mugla province. In the Central Anatolia region, temperatures averaged 23.8 C for the month. The lowest in the region was 1.9 C in the Kangal and the highest was 40 C in the Polatli district of Ankara. Temperatures across the Central and Western Black Sea regions, as well as in the inner parts of the Eastern Black Sea region, were seasonal, but some saw the mercury creep higher. The average temperature was 24.2 degrees. Temperatures were above normal in Igdir, Bingol and Van provinces as well as parts of the Eastern Anatolian region, while areas in the region saw seasonal temperatures. The lowest in the region was 3.2 C in the Sarikamis district of Kars province; the highest was 40.9 C in the Ergani district of Diyarbakir province. In the southeastern Anatolia region, the average temperature was 32.1 degrees. Temperatures in provinces such as Kilis and Batman were around seasonal norms, some other areas of the region recorded above-normal temperatures. The lowest in the region was 16.4 C in the Birecik district of Sanliurfa province, and the highest was 46.1 C in Cizre.
